Today (January 8, 2020): The 85 most anticipated hotel openings of 2021.
Last month, I published my list of the best new luxury hotels of 2020. Today, I share with you the 85 hottest luxury hotels and resorts that are expected to open their doors in 2021. Some of these hotel openings are managed by the world’s most exclusive hotel brands. Please keep in mind that hotel openings do get delayed from time to time, so to avoid disappointment, try not to book a room before the hotel effectively opened.

1. AMAN NEW YORK, USA
The Crown Building on Fifth Avenue building is one of the most expensive, if not sought-after blocks in the world and has presided since 1921 over the midpoint of Manhattan, overlooking Central Park. The fourth through tenth floors of the building will be occupied by the new Aman hotel, while the 11th floor and above will be transformed into 20, Aman-branded residences, crowned with a five-story, near-14,000-square-foot penthouse that will be priced in excess of US$100 million. The new Aman will also encompass an extraordinary three storeys Aman Spa, with a dramatic indoor swimming pool surrounded by fire pits and daybeds as its centerpiece. Two Spa Houses will provide guests with an all-encompassing spa journey, encompassing a double treatment room, sauna and steam rooms, and an outdoor terrace with cabana, daybed and fireplace. It will be Aman’s third property in the USA, after Amangani in Wyoming and Amangiri in Utah.

2. SIX SENSES NEW YORK, USA
Six Senses New York, the group’s first North American property, is a key element of The XI – two unique, twisting towers designed by world-renowned architect Bjarke Ingels in an unparalleled location in between Manhattan’s Hudson River and The High Line. Guestrooms and suites designed by celebrated Parisian firm Gilles & Boissier will be temporary in style, offering every modern convenience wedded to a calm ambience of natural-hued fabrics and furnishings. Two restaurants will showcase the brand’s popular culinary approach to wellness by serving fresh, seasonal and locally-sourced produce and ingredients. Six Senses Spa will introduce a layered approach to wellness with treatments that are an intuitive mix of science and human awareness, where a high-tech and high-touch approach is crafted around the individual.

With its on-site vineyard, vine-to-table restaurant, wellness spa and farmhouse-style accommodations, Four Seasons Napa Valley promises to be the perfect base for a wine country getaway. The new hotel will be located in the charming community of Calistoga, just 90 minutes and yet a world away from San Francisco, the Bay Area and Sacramento. Designed by Napa’s own Erin Martin and with just 85 accommodations, it will be an intimate retreat that invites guests to explore the natural beauty that surrounds it. Within the resort, couples and families will enjoy a full service spa, several outdoor pools, a kids club and fine dining venues.

4. FOUR SEASONS HOTEL NEW ORLEANS, USA
Within the World Trade Center, the new Four Seasons will be located next to the Ernest N. Morial Convention Center, financial center, French Quarter, and Warehouse District, with clear views of both the city and the Mississippi River. Following extensive renovations, the World Trade Center will be refreshed with a new podium and public spaces, as well as the 341-room Four Seasons Hotel and 92 private Four Seasons Residences on the top floors of the building. The hotel will also encompass meeting and event spaces, four food and drink outlets, retail spaces, spa facilities, and a rooftop pool. Both public and private spaces will be filled with natural light with most featuring views of the adjacent Mississippi River.

5. THE ST REGIS CHICAGO, ILLINOIS, USA
Located downtown, The St. Regis Chicago will span a total of three towers within the sought-after Lakeshore East community. The vibrant area includes a mix of residential and corporate properties, all centrally anchored by a public park. The project is anticipated to include 191 hotel rooms – including 33 spacious suites – and 393 branded residences within the 101-story building. Previously under construction as the luxury Wanda Vista Hotel and Vista Tower, the property is being rebranded as the St. Regis Chicago and the Residences at the St. Regis Chicago. Expected to welcome its first hotel guests by July 2021, the project will serve as a key property in the neighborhood given its unique architecture and ultra-luxury experience.

6. CAMP ARAMONI, ILLINOIS, USA
Camp Aramoni (pronounced air-uh-MOE-knee) is a new luxury campground and event space that will redefine luxury travel in the Midwest. Spanning 96 acres of lush forests on a former 19th century brickyard, Camp Aramoni will be just 90 minutes south of Chicago near the picturesque Starved Rock State Park. The resort will combine exciting camping experiences with the best of hotel amenities. Guest will be able to choose from 11 safari-style tents to enjoy the highest level of hospitality wrapped into a secluded natural landscape. The property will offer fully immersive experiences including chef-inspired cuisine and on-site activities in the lush forests along the Vermillion River. This will be social distancing at its finest.

7. MONTAGE BIG SKY, MONTANA, USA
Nestled within Big Sky’s 3,530-acre Spanish Peaks enclave, and less than an hour’s drive from the gates of Yellowstone National Park, Montage Big Sky will offer a year-round mountain paradise for luxury adventurers and outdoor enthusiasts alike. Guests will enjoy ski-in, ski-out access to Big Sky Resort’s 5,800 skiable acres, an onsite 18-hole Tom Weiskopf-designed golf course, close proximity to world-renowned fly-fishing along with an abundance of hiking, wildlife spotting, mountain biking, Nordic skiing and snowshoeing trails. Throughout the 150-room resort, a modern mountain design meets the welcoming atmosphere of a classic mountain ski lodge, featuring sweeping alpine vistas and vaulted ceilings accented by a timeless palette of regional woods and stones.

8. ALILA MAREA BEACH RESORT ENCINITAS, CALIFORNIA, USA
The $110 million USD new Alila Marea Beach Resort is set to open in January 2021 on the coastal bluffs of Encinitas. San Diego-based Joseph Wong Design Associates created an “eco-friendly” design for the hotel, using natural building materials and colors that will blend into the existing bluffs. Hotel amenities will include a world class spa and wellness center, an oceanfront pool with an infinity-edge Jacuzzi and an ocean-view restaurant with a rooftop patio. The property will offer plenty of meeting and event space with six indoor-outdoor venues. The hotel plans to offer locally-inspired programming including a partnership with local surfer and environmentalist Rob Machado.

9. MISSION PACIFIC HOTEL, CALIFORNIA, USA
As a part of Hyatt’s Joie de Vivre brand, the 161-key Mission Pacific Hotel will provide a laid-back yet upscale experience that invites guests and locals alike to ‘connect, live in the moment and celebrate the joy of life’. This philosophy will be expressed through 3,000 sq ft of curated retail outlets and three drinking and dining venues, including the only rooftop pool bar in northern San Diego County and a restaurant overlooking the pier from Guadalupe Valley chef Roberto Alcocer. The hotel will also reveal the restoration of the iconic 1887 ‘Top Gun’ house featured in the cult ‘80s film. The new hotel represent the largest oceanfront resort development to come to San Diego County for over half a century.

10. PARK HYATT LOS ANGELES AT OCEANWIDE PLAZA, CALIFORNIA, USA
Scheduled to open in 2021, Park Hyatt Los Angeles at Oceanwide Plaza will exude a sophisticated character courtesy of acclaimed international design firm Studio Munge. This luxury hotel will feature upscale accommodations, exquisite culinary offerings, sophisticated works of art, as well as masterful attention to detail and a signature level of service offered by the Park Hyatt brand. The 184-room luxury hotel, with 34 suites, meeting and events spaces, spa and wellness facilities and a swimming pool, will connect to the 100-foot retail and amenity podium known as The Collection at Oceanwide Plaza. The retail space design will lend to experience-driven guest accommodations amid a dynamic environment for innovative retailers to showcase unique merchandising concepts and sought-after products.

11. ANDAZ PALM SPRINGS, CALIFORNIA, USA
The 150-room luxury lifestyle hotel will be located in the heart of downtown Palm Springs, adjacent to the vibrant Uptown Design District and walking distance to the shops, restaurant and galleries that line the famed Palm Canyon Drive. The 150-guestroom, 17-suite Andaz Palm Springs will stay true to its desert oasis destination. The hotel will comprise a collection of small buildings and guestroom bungalows surrounding two outdoor pools and garden areas on an elevated patio terrace, offering panoramic views of the majestic San Jacinto Mountains and city. Andaz Palm Springs will also feature spa services, a fitness facility, a signature restaurant and lounge, as well as an expansive elevated poolside retreat and terrace bar. The first level of the hotel site will include boutique retail space and meeting facilities.

12. AMBIENTE, A LANDSCAPE HOTEL, SEDONA, ARIZONA, USA
A first of its kind in North America, Ambiente, a Landscape Hotel will be uniquely designed to blend in with the mystical red rocks of Sedona, Arizona. and will give guests the opportunity to experience and embrace the natural beauty that surrounds them in one of the world’s most stunning locations. Ambiente will be comprised of 40 cubed-shaped guest Atriums that are elevated above the ground by steel piers and constructed using floor-to-ceiling, bronze-tinted glass and matte-charcoal and rusted metal. At dusk, the tinted glass will reflect the nature around it creating stunning, mirrored silhouettes. The Atriums’ sleek and contemporary design will embody elegant minimalism and the utmost in luxurious accommodation.

13. THE RITZ-CARLTON, PARADISE VALLEY, ARIZONA, USA
The Ritz-Carlton, Paradise Valley promises to be one of the finest resorts of its kind ever built in Arizona. Spread out over approximately 20 acres, the abundant oversized suites and detached casitas will make the resort an ideal destination for those seeking a private oasis. Guest accommodations will be connected by quiet, lush courtyard gardens and shaded walkways – evoking the sense of a village. The main pool will be one of the longest resort pools in North America. A specialty dining concept will harvest seasonal produce from the resort’s anticipated herb garden and citrus orchard and incorporate ingredients into the daily menus. 14. RESORTS WORLD LAS VEGAS, NEVADA, USA
Weaving traditions of Resorts World into the fabric of Las Vegas, the 3,500-room casino-resort will introduce a bold, fresh take on hospitality to the Las Vegas market with exciting new experiences, one-of-a-kind culture and seamless guest service. The project will house three Hilton brands – Hilton Hotels & Resorts, LXR and Conrad. Resorts World and Hilton partnered on the design concepts, guest experience and service for each guestroom. In addition to three different Hilton brand concepts, the Resorts World Las Vegas project will comprise a 5,000-capacity theater, a massive amount of meeting and convention space, a enormous pool complex, a spa and fitness center, and a variety of casual and fine-dining food and beverage offerings.

15. THE TAMPA EDITION HOTEL, FLORIDA, USA
As Tampa Bay’s first five-star hotel, The Tampa EDITION will be a cultural focal point of the Water Street Tampa neighborhood. Designed by Morris Adjmi Architects with interiors inspired by Roman and Williams, the hotel will be home to 172 guestrooms and suites and six F&B outlets, including a signature restaurant, rooftop bar and terrace. The property will also have a spacious Penthouse Suite of its own, an expansive spa, fitness center and nearly 6,000 square feet of flexible meeting and events space. The hotel is situated within immediate proximity to the best that Tampa has to offer in terms of cultural institutions, entertainment, recreational, dining and shopping options.

17. FOUR SEASONS RESORT TAMARINDO, MEXICO
Four Seasons Resort Tamarindo will be located on a private peninsula along the Pacific Ocean in the state of Jalisco, between the towns of La Manzanilla and Barra de Navidad. The area, known as “Costa Alegre” or “Joy Coast” is acclaimed for its picturesque beaches, lush landscape and unique topography. Most of the resort’s 155 rooms will boast panoramic views of the Pacific Ocean, enveloped by the surrounding jungle and lush golf course. The contemporary architectural and interior design will blend with the natural surroundings and showcase local materials and textures. The resort will offer four dining and beverage venues, including an ocean view bar and restaurant, beach bar and grill and golf club restaurant. The grounds will also feature three pools and a full-service spa set amid a tropical forest.

18. THE RITZ-CARLTON, MEXICO CITY, MEXICO
Rising 58 stories above street level, the home of The Ritz-Carlton, Mexico City will add a striking structure to the city’s skyline. Located on floors 36 to 47 of a brand-new skyscraper, the hotel will offer sweeping views of Chapultepec Park from each of its 153 accommodations and its private residences. Luxury amenities will include a Club Lounge, a Mediterranean-inspired bar and restaurant, a spa, pool, fitness center and meeting and event spaces. The hotel will be part of the Chapultepec Uno mixed use project, prominently located at the intersection of Avenida Reforma and Circuito Interior in the heart of the city’s financial center. KMD Architects and Taller GLOBAL are leading the design and architectural efforts for the project.

19. AWAKENING RIVIERA MAYA, MEXICO
Awakening will be located on the shores of the Laguna Nopalitos on the Caribbean coast of Mexico, 19 km/12 miles south of Tulum, one of Mexico’s most popular and fastest growing tourist destinations. Laguna Nopalitos looks like a Caribbean beach but actually is a “Cenote” filled with crystal clear fresh water. Fed by one of the world’s largest underground river systems, it is surrounded by extensive, uninhabited mangrove and jungle. The name itself, Awakening, promises a transformational travel experience. Guests here will not stay in hotel rooms but in “capullos” or futuristic looking cocoons. Re-connecting to this moment is what Awakening will essentially be all about.

20. THE RIVIERA MAY EDITION AT KANAI, MEXICO
The Riviera Maya EDITION at Kanai is expected to open in winter 2021. With 180 guestrooms and suites, the hotel will be situated within the luxurious Kanai development, and home to six food and beverage outlets including a signature restaurant, pool bar and beach club, destination spa and an expansive Penthouse Suite. In addition to multiple meeting spaces, the hotel will also house an extensive outdoor deck for large scale events and parties. Located on a pristine beachfront site, EDITION Hotels’ first property in Mexico will find its home in the blissful stretch of Caribbean coastline. Riviera Maya is known for its mangroves and lagoons, ancient Mayan cities, tropical beaches, ecological reserves and the world’s second largest coral reef.

21. ETEREO, RIVIERA MAYA, MEXICO
Nestled along the coastal paradise of Riviera Maya on a pristine oceanfront site, remarkable for its lush and expansive mangrove gardens and deep white-sand beach, an extraordinary resort is taking shape: Etéreo, a new destination from Auberge Resorts Collection, will bring a compelling luxury experience where guests can escape in perfect comfort and seclusion and enjoy a deep connection with nature and with one another. Featuring 75 contemporary guesthouses, an Auberge Spa and two dining venues, the resort will be a collection of patinaed coral stone structures designed with modern Mayan references and elevated to seemingly float like islands among fields of dense tropical vegetation. The enclave, which will have a highly residential feel, will tread lightly on the land and offer stunning ocean views.

22. SUSURROS DEL CORAZON, PUNTA DE MITA, MEXICO
On the Pacific coast of Mexico overlooking Banderas Bay is a pristine beach surrounded by sun-kissed bluffs and lush equatorial flora. This idyllic spot will become home to Susurros Del Corazón, an Auberge Resorts Collection. Reintroducing romance to the Punta de Mita peninsula, the property promises to captivate with unscripted luxury, authentic connection, and reverence for nature. The resort will sit on a bluff fringed by tropical jungle that tumbles down to an intimate white sand beach, where warm breezes ruffle hammocks, surfers play on the horizon and perfect sunsets end each extraordinary day. 23. THE ST REGIS QUIVIRA, LOS CABOS, MEXICO
The St. Regis Los Cabos at Quivira will showcase an exclusive 120-room luxury beachfront hotel and 60 residences set within Quivira Los Cabos, a premier residential community with an enviable list of assets, from a glorious of virgin beach on the Sea of Cortes to an internationally-acclaimed Jack Nicklaus Signature course at Quivira Golf Club. The hotel’s guest rooms will feature ocean views and the renowned St. Regis Butler Service. 25. ROSEWOOD LE GUANAHANI, ST BARTH
Rosewood has been appointed to manage St. Barth’s renowned retreat, Le Guanahani. Closed since 2017 due to the effects of Hurricanes Irma and Maria, the property will reopen in spring 2021 as Rosewood Le Guanahani St. Barth with a property-wide rebuild and refurbishment that preserves the unique spirit of the resort and perfectly embodies Rosewood’s “A Sense of Place” philosophy. With stunning architecture by David M. Schwarz Architects and unique interior design by Luis Pons Design Lab, the new Rosewood Le Guanahani St. Barth will evoke the rich and authentic French Caribbean heritage of the island with its signature colorful style featuring vibrant design hues of turquoise inspired by the Caribbean water, yellow reflecting the tropical sun and lavender as a nod to the South of France.

26. MOSKITO ISLAND, BRITISH VIRGIN ISLANDS
Off the Northern coast of Virgin Gorda lies a tranquil private island oasis where the emerald waters and pristine white sand beaches are a haven for relaxation and adventure. This exclusive destination is Moskito Island – a luxurious retreat in the North Sound neighborhood of the British Virgin Islands. Sir Richard Branson’s Virgin Limited Edition (VLE), has overseen the operations and development of the island. Comprised of 10 private estate lots, refined amenities, and breathtaking topography with panoramic water views from every angle, Moskito Island will offer an array of opportunities to explore the 125 acres of natural Caribbean paradise. Branson himself will have an estate on Moskito Island, comprised of an 11-bedroom compound made up of three separate villas.

27. KIMPTON KAWANA BAY RESORT, GRENADA
A hillside retreat tucked away between tropical rainforest cliffs and the world-renowned Grand Anse Beach, the Kimpton Kawana Bay will offer picturesque views and instant access to the southeastern Caribbean Sea and surrounding mountains. The 146-key resort will comprise 101 luxury studio rooms and 45 suites. 12 additional penthouse apartments will also be available for sale to private owners. A number of Kawana Bay’s suites will include private pools overlooking Grand Anse Beach, largely considered to be one of the world’s best beaches, and all rooms will feature spectacular ocean views. Additional amenities will include an infinity pool, chef-driven restaurant, lounge and beach bars, fitness center, spa and water sports facilities.

28. SIX SENSES BOTANIQUE, BRAZIL
Six Senses Botanique lies in the desirable Mantiqueira area, 2.5 hours from São Paulo and 3.5 hours from Rio de Janeiro, 3,940 feet (1,200 meters) above sea level and at the confluence of three river valleys in the heart of the Mantiqueira Mountains. Formerly known as Botanique Hotel & Spa, the hotel was born out of Fernanda Ralston Semler’s vision to set a new benchmark in luxury hospitality that was completely home-grown, recognizing local traditions and culture, as well as its natural setting. When the property adopts the Six Senses brand in early 2021, it will offer seven suites in the main hotel and 13 private villas dotted in the hills around it. A further 14 villas are planned and will be constructed off-site in a modular manner using local materials. They will be sited to minimize their impact on the surrounding flora and fauna.

29. ROSEWOOD SAO PAULO, BRAZIL
Rosewood Sao Paulo will be housed in an impressively renovated building just off the city’s main boulevard Avenida Paulista and will feature 151 guest rooms and 122 residential suites, two restaurants, two swimming pools and a spa centre. Spread over 22 floors, the hotel building was originally built in 1904 and was a maternity hospital located in the center of the Cidade Matarazzo complex, which contains historic buildings in the middle of Sao Paulo. The skyscraper takes the form of a terraced tower clad in a patchwork of bronzed grids, which are inset and pulled out alternatively to form terraced gardens, a scheme which is intended to emulate the surrounding landscape and provide a physical continuation of parkland and trees in the vicinity. The hotel interiors will be designed by famed designer Philippe Starck.

30. THE AIRELLES CHATEAU DE VERSAILLES, LE GRAND CONTROLE, FRANCE
Built in 1681 by Jules Hardouin-Mansart, the architect of King Louis XIV, Le Grand Contrôle is imbued with French history, and found right in the heart of the Château de Versailles. From spring 2020, this building will re-open as a luxury hotel, offering guests behind-the-scenes access to the Domaine de Versailles, the palace and the Petit Trianon. There will be 14 luxury rooms and suites, featuring an authentic decor that has been painfully restored. Guests will also be able to wander freely around the French gardens, as Le Grand Contrôle will have direct access to the Orangery and the Lake of the Swiss Guard. The property will also feature a chef Alain Ducasse led fine dining venue, serving haute-French cuisine that takes inspiration from recipes of the past, mixed with creativity and modern flair.

31. CHEVAL BLANC PARIS, FRANCE
Cheval Blanc, the hospitality arm of LVMH, manages several ultra-luxurious resorts in glamorous spots across the globe: St. Barth’s, Courchevel, St. Tropez. This April, they finally open one in the city they call home: Paris. Architect Peter Marino will transform La Samaritaine, the iconic department store that shuttered in 2005, into a stylish getaway on the edge of the Seine. The design will be inspired by the building’s Art Deco heritage, and filled with furniture displaying the finest French craftsmanship. With only 72 rooms and suites, Cheval Blanc Paris will be a confidential haven where lovers, families and friends meet. The property is sure to become a culinary tour-de-force as well: the restaurant will be helmed by the three-star Michelin chef Arnaud Donckele.

The 57-key Capella Maldives will be set in the Rah Falhu Huraa lagoon, located in North Male Atoll and accessible by a 45-minute speedboat ride from the Maldives’ main airport. It will be part of the same integrated luxury development which the Ritz-Carlton will call its home (cf above). Designed by renowned Japanese architect Kengo Kuma and Hong Kong based interior designer Andre Fu, all 64 Sunset Villas, Sunrise Villas, Northern Bay Villas and Southern Ocean Villas will be located on land or overwater, immersed in the beauty of the surrounding lagoon. Historic Rajasthan will be the setting for the 14th century fort that has been beautifully converted to become Six Senses Fort Barwara, a three-hour drive from Jaipur. Originally owned by the Rajasthani Royal Family, it will sit directly opposite the temple, Chauth ka Barwara Mandir. The sensitive conservation effort will feature 48 suites and will incorporate a palace and two temples within the walled site that reinterprets the gracious and regal ambience of a bygone era. Two restaurants will serve classic dishes and modern cuisine incorporating fresh local ingredients, together with a bar and lounge. A 30,000 square foot (2,800 square meter) Six Senses Spa and fitness center will be located in the original women’s palace and will feature an extensive Ayurveda program, meditation and Six Senses Integrated Wellness programs. Ritz-Carlton plans to open this year the first all-villa property in one of China’s earliest UNESCO world heritage sites, Jiuzhaigou Valley. Located on the edge of the Tibetan Plateau in South West China, the property will enjoy striking views close to multi-level waterfalls, blue lakes and verdant forests for which the 72,000-hectare nature reserve and national park is famed. Juizhaigou Valley which translates as the Valley of the Nine Village Forts, is a land of Chinese legend and folklore, with stories of its creation embedded deeply in the customs of the local Qiang and Tibetan tribes.
