After this world-famous Australian resort was devastated in a 2020 bushfire, it was rebuild and finally reopened early December 2023. The project, led by the lodge’s original architect Max Pritchard and his partner Andrew Gunner, kept most of the structure’s original footprint, but the 25 luxury guest suites have been repositioned to offer even better views of the ocean and rugged coastline. Additionally, a new Ocean Pavilion suite now sits remotely and boasts an outdoor terrace, wet-edge pool and up to four bedrooms and bathrooms. Sustainability sits at the core of this redesign, and hybrid solar and battery infrastructure allow the lodge to run off the grid while reducing diesel fuel consumption by half. The resort has also cleared the coastline, planted fire-retardant succulents and native juniper, and installed a bushfire sprinkler system for extra safety.
