Today: The most anticipated hotel openings of 2022
Last month, I published my list of the best new luxury hotels of 2021. Today, I share with you the hottest luxury hotels and resorts (87 in total) that are expected to open their doors in 2022. Some of these hotel openings are managed by the world’s most exclusive hotel brands. Please keep in mind that hotel openings do get delayed from time to time (especially during the pandemic), so to avoid disappointment, try not to book a room before the hotel effectively opened.

1. AMAN NEW YORK, USA
The Crown Building on Fifth Avenue building is one of the most expensive, if not sought-after blocks in the world and has presided since 1921 over the midpoint of Manhattan, overlooking Central Park. The fourth through tenth floors of the building will be occupied by the new Aman hotel, while the 11th floor and above will be transformed into 20, Aman-branded residences, crowned with a five-story, near-14,000-square-foot penthouse that will be priced in excess of US$100 million. The new Aman will also encompass an extraordinary Aman Spa, with a dramatic indoor swimming pool surrounded by fire pits and daybeds as its centerpiece. Two Spa Houses will provide guests with an all-encompassing spa journey, encompassing a double treatment room, sauna and steam rooms, and an outdoor terrace with cabana, daybed and fireplace.

2. THE FIFTH AVENUE HOTEL, NEW YORK, USA
The Fifth Avenue Hotel will be an oasis of calm amidst the frenetic pace of Manhattan. Mindfully blending personal service, superlative design by Martin Brudnizki Design Studio, distinctive cuisine, compelling art and engaging cultural experiences, every aspect of Flâneur Hospitality’s inaugural 153-room hotel will be tailored to delight, engage and reward curiosity. Rooms will be split between two buildings: the majority will be housed in a soaring new 24-story skyscraper, while 24 signature suites will be located inside the former Second National Bank Building, a McKim Mead & White original design which the Gilded Age’s favorite architects completed in 1907. Located in the NoMad neighborhood, The Fifth will be steps from the idyllic Madison Square Park, the iconic Flatiron Building, the blooming flower district, as well as the city’s best dining, shopping and nightlife.

3. THE RITZ-CARLTON NEW YORK, NOMAD, USA
Newly built from the ground up and one of the tallest buildings in the area, the 250 room Ritz-Carlton hotel will boast spectacular views from the Empire State Building down to the Statue of Liberty, and will be just steps away from Madison Square Park, the Flatiron Building, and a short walk to the Highline. Restaurants and bars by Michelin-starred chef José Andrés including Zaytinya will offer an innovative mezze menu inspired by Turkish, Greek and Lebanese cuisines served up in a sleek and modern setting by Rockwell Group, and a new iteration of the high-end avant-garde dining destination, the Bazaar, will come later in 2022. Andrés will also oversee the hotel‘s the rooftop bar, where guests can drink 500 ft (150 m) in the air, as well as in-room dining, banquet events including weddings and more. The hotel will also offer a signature Ritz-Carlton Spa and fitness center including eight treatment rooms, sauna & steam rooms.

4. HOTEL BARRIERE FOUQUET’S, NEW YORK, USA
Housed within an impressive building standing amidst Tribeca’s cobblestone streets , Hotel Barrière Fouquest’s aims to elegantly whisk its guests from the lively streets of New York right to the heart of a Parisian maison de famille. Inside the hotel, Parisian elegance will meet New York energy, alongside the direction of Martin Brundizki Design Studio, with mouldings and exclusive Toile de Jouy fabric created for the bedrooms, a Belle Epoque ambiance in the hotel bar, bistro chairs and throwbacks to literary gatherings of days gone by. There will be 97 rooms, including 6 Signature Suites with terrace, some offering view over the Hudson River. On-site facilities will include a brasserie by Michelin-star Chef Pierre Gagnaire and a luxury spa.

5. THE SHOALS SUITES AND SLIPS, NEW YORK, USA
Expected to open in early 2022, The Shoals will be a hotel sanctuary of simple splendors nestled on Southold’s bayside, a destination rooted in the charismatic offerings of the great North Fork. Designed by Thomas Juul-Hansen, the property will features 20 suites and 20 slips on the majestic Peconic Bay. The Shoals will press pause on the urban pace, offering an elemental retreat providing space and calm in the wild magnificence that is rural, coastal New York. The dockside property will be the first hotel from restauranteur and Michelin-starred chef John Fraser, and of course, will offer delicious cuisine.

6. THE ST REGIS CHICAGO, ILLINOIS, USA
Located downtown, The St. Regis Chicago will span a total of three towers within the sought-after Lakeshore East community. The vibrant area includes a mix of residential and corporate properties, all centrally anchored by a public park. The project is anticipated to include 191 hotel rooms – including 33 spacious suites – and 393 branded residences within the 101-story building. Previously under construction as the luxury Wanda Vista Hotel and Vista Tower, the property is being rebranded as the St. Regis Chicago and the Residences at the St. Regis Chicago. Expected to welcome its first hotel guests during its August 2022 opening, the hotel will serve as a key property in the neighborhood given its unique architecture and ultra-luxury experience.

7. PARK HYATT LOS ANGELES AT OCEANWIDE PLAZA, CALIFORNIA, USA
Park Hyatt Los Angeles at Oceanwide Plaza will exude a sophisticated character courtesy of acclaimed international design firm Studio Munge. This luxury hotel will feature upscale accommodations, exquisite culinary offerings, sophisticated works of art, as well as masterful attention to detail and a signature level of service offered by the Park Hyatt brand. The 184-room luxury hotel, with 34 suites, meeting and events spaces, spa and wellness facilities and a swimming pool, will connect to the retail and amenity podium known as The Collection at Oceanwide Plaza. The retail space design will lend to experience-driven guest accommodations amid a dynamic environment for innovative retailers to showcase unique merchandising concepts and sought-after products.

8. ANDAZ PALM SPRINGS, CALIFORNIA, USA
The luxury lifestyle Andaz hotel will be located in the heart of downtown Palm Springs, adjacent to the vibrant Uptown Design District and walking distance to the shops, restaurant and galleries that line the famed Palm Canyon Drive. The 150-guestroom, 17-suite Andaz Palm Springs will stay true to its desert oasis destination. The hotel will comprise a collection of small buildings and guestroom bungalows surrounding two outdoor pools and garden areas on an elevated patio terrace, offering panoramic views of the majestic San Jacinto Mountains and city. Andaz Palm Springs will also feature spa services, a fitness facility, a signature restaurant and lounge, as well as an expansive elevated poolside retreat and terrace bar. 9. CONRAD LOS ANGELES, CALIFORNIA, USA
Managed by Hilton and expected to open in 2022, the 28-story hotel will include 305 modern guest rooms with bold design, as well as a spa, elevated indoor/outdoor lobby with sweeping views of the iconic Walt Disney Concert Hall, and a rooftop terrace complete with a private pool deck overlooking downtown LA. Guests will enjoy locally inspired culinary experiences through dining outlets featuring expansive lounges and outdoor amenities that embrace California’s outdoor culture, all while staying true to Conrad’s commitment to wellness and sustainable travel. The luxury property will also offer meeting and event facilities with integrated technology capabilities as well as a state-of-the-art fitness room for guests.

10. SENSEI PORCUPINE CREEK, CALIFORNIA, USA
Set within the foothills of the Santa Rosa Mountains in Rancho Mirage, Sensei Porcupine Creek will be a true desert oasis. The mountain range, part of a nationally protected monument in the Coachella Valley, rises dramatically in the background of the 230-acre estate – a testament to the diverse natural surroundings. 11. THE INN AT MATTEI’S TAVERN, CALIFORNIA, USA
From its earliest incarnation, in 1886 as a popular stagecoach stop during California’s Gold Rush, to its years as a surreptitious hangout through Prohibition, The Inn at Mattei’s Tavern has long held a fabled place in Central Coast lore. Revered and raucously enjoyed for generations, the beloved landmark will open a new chapter in 2022 as the definitive luxury hotel in the Santa Ynez Valley. Rich with rustic sophistication and legitimate history, Mattei’s Tavern will effectively fuse old with new. The Tavern and the original cottages have been painstakingly restored to preserve their distinctive details, while new buildings will sit alongside them – seamlessly blending with the authentic structures. The hotel’s Tavern will be a California ranch-inspired restaurant spotlighting flavorful dishes with honest ingredients – many of which will be harvested from Mattei’s on-site garden.

12. PENDRY PARK CITY, UTAH, USA
Bringing in artistic influence, thoughtful service and inspired design to Canyons Village, Pendry Park City will serve as a destination within a destination. The luxury resort will feature 152 guestrooms, suites, and Pendry Residences. Upon opening in 2022, the hotel will have the only rooftop pool and bar in the area, as well as an inspired Japanese-American restaurant that will offer mountain fare, steaks and chops, along with authentic Japanese sushi and ramen. Guests and residential owners will also have access to a rec room with relaxed American cuisine and arcade games, as well as Spa Pendry with eight treatment rooms; a fitness center; Pinwheel Kids Club and more than 7,000 square feet of indoor meeting space, including a 4,000-square-foot ballroom.

13. AMBIENTE, A LANDSCAPE HOTEL, SEDONA, ARIZONA, USA
A first of its kind in North America, Ambiente, a Landscape Hotel will be uniquely designed to blend in with the mystical red rocks of Sedona, Arizona. and will give guests the opportunity to experience and embrace the natural beauty that surrounds them in one of the world’s most stunning locations. Ambiente will be comprised of 40 cubed-shaped guest Atriums that are elevated above the ground by steel piers and constructed using floor-to-ceiling, bronze-tinted glass and matte-charcoal and rusted metal. At dusk, the tinted glass will reflect the nature around it creating stunning, mirrored silhouettes. The Atriums’ sleek and contemporary design will embody elegant minimalism and the utmost in luxurious accommodation.

14. THE RITZ-CARLTON, PARADISE VALLEY, ARIZONA, USA
The Ritz-Carlton, Paradise Valley promises to be one of the finest resorts of its kind ever built in Arizona. Spread out over approximately 20 acres, the abundant oversized suites and detached casitas will make the resort an ideal destination for those seeking a private oasis. Guest accommodations will be connected by quiet, lush courtyard gardens and shaded walkways – evoking the sense of a village. The main pool will be one of the longest resort pools in North America. A specialty dining concept will harvest seasonal produce from the resort’s anticipated herb garden and citrus orchard and incorporate ingredients into the daily menus. 15. FOUR SEASONS HOTEL MINNEAPOLIS, MINNESOTA, USA
Toasting the city’s history while setting the stage for the future, Four Seasons Hotel Minneapolis will command downtown’s most prominent location, just two blocks from the Mississippi and close to North Loop shopping and entertainment. Hotel facilities will include dining by award-winning local chef Gavin Kaysen, an energizing spa and a one-of-a-kind pool plaza. There will be 222 accommodations, including 39 suites, featuring modern design inspired by the city’s industrial heritage. Guests will enjoy unobstructed views of the city or river from the 23rd to 30th floors.

16. FOUR SEASONS HOTEL NASHVILLE, TENNESSEE, USA
A soaring new landmark on the skyline, Four Seasons Hotel Nashville will pay homage to the city’s creative spirit. The property will be located in the SoBro district, just one block from Broadway, while celebrating nature with views of the Cumberland River and Riverfront Park. Guests will discover craft and artistry in 235 accommodations, including 46 suites, and will experience the city’s hottest new restaurants and a glamorous rooftop pool terrace. With warm Four Seasons care, the property promises to usher in a new era of Nashville luxury.

17. FOUR SEASONS HOTEL AND RESIDENCES FORT LAUDERDALE, FLORIDA, USA
Bringing an inspiring sense of possibility to this next-generation coastal city, Four Seasons Hotel & Residence Fort Lauderdale will represent a modern reflection of the classic yacht club lifestyle. A prime beachfront address with unrivaled style and service, the property will offer 189 accommodations, including 19 suites and 41 residences – all with Atlantic or Intracoastal views. Hotel facilities will include a spa and a third-floor ocean terrace for dining and lounging beside two horizon-edge pools. 18. THE TAMPA EDITION HOTEL, FLORIDA, USA
Planned to open in 2022, The Tampa EDITION will become the fifth US property from EDITION Hotels. Situated within the new 56-acre Water Street Tampa neighborhood, the hotel will be home to 172 guest rooms and suites and six F&B outlets, including a signature restaurant, rooftop bar and terrace. The property will also feature a Penthouse Suite, expansive spa, fitness center and meeting and events space. Bringing some of the world’s best talents together into one project, the property will be designed by acclaimed New York-based architecture practice Morris Adjmi in collaboration with Florida-based firm Nichols Brosch Wurst Wolfe & Associates; with interiors designed by the renowned Roman & Williams, the whole project will be underpinned by the creative vision of Ian Schrager and Ian Schrager Company.

19. ROCK HOUSE, TURKS AND CAICOS
Rock House will be a new island addition that provides a private, cliff-side oasis that captures the allure and elegance of the South of France, Capri and the Mediterranean. The resort will be located on Providenciales’ north shore in the Turks and Caicos Islands. The intimate escape will boast accommodations ranging from poolside studios to four-bedroom Oceanfront standalone resort-style homes. Each home will be crafted by Coast Architects with interiors by AD100 interior designer Shawn Henderson. Resort amenities will consist of a one-of-a-kind, serviced Beach Club at Rock House, the largest infinity pool in Turks and Caicos, waterfront dining, and wellness facilities, including a spa and yoga pavilion, walking trail, and fitness center.

20. FOUR SEASONS RESORT TAMARINDO, MEXICO
Four Seasons Resort Tamarindo will be located on a private peninsula along the Pacific Ocean in the state of Jalisco, between the towns of La Manzanilla and Barra de Navidad. The area, known as “Costa Alegre” or “Joy Coast” is acclaimed for its picturesque beaches, lush landscape and unique topography. Most of the resort’s 155 rooms will boast panoramic views of the Pacific Ocean, enveloped by the surrounding jungle and lush golf course. The contemporary architectural and interior design will blend with the natural surroundings and showcase local materials and textures. The resort will offer four dining and beverage venues, including an ocean view bar and restaurant, beach bar and grill and golf club restaurant. The grounds will also feature three pools and a full-service spa set amid a tropical forest.

21. AWAKENING RIVIERA MAYA, MEXICO
Awakening will be located on the shores of the Laguna Nopalitos on the Caribbean coast of Mexico, 19 km/12 miles south of Tulum, one of Mexico’s most popular and fastest growing tourist destinations. Laguna Nopalitos looks like a Caribbean beach but actually is a “Cenote” filled with crystal clear fresh water. Fed by one of the world’s largest underground river systems, it is surrounded by extensive, uninhabited mangrove and jungle. The name itself, Awakening, promises a transformational travel experience. Guests here will not stay in hotel rooms but in “capullos” or futuristic looking cocoons. Re-connecting to this moment is what Awakening will essentially be all about.

22. THE RIVIERA MAYA EDITION AT KANAI, MEXICO
The Riviera Maya EDITION at Kanai is expected to open in 2022. With 180 guestrooms and suites, the hotel will be situated within the luxurious Kanai development, and home to six food and beverage outlets including a signature restaurant, pool bar and beach club, destination spa and an expansive Penthouse Suite. In addition to multiple meeting spaces, the hotel will also house an extensive outdoor deck for large scale events and parties. Located on a pristine beachfront site, EDITION Hotels’ first property in Mexico will find its home in the blissful stretch of Caribbean coastline. Riviera Maya is known for its mangroves and lagoons, ancient Mayan cities, tropical beaches, ecological reserves and the world’s second largest coral reef.

23. SUSURROS DEL CORAZON, PUNTA DE MITA, MEXICO
On the Pacific coast of Mexico overlooking Banderas Bay is a pristine beach surrounded by sun-kissed bluffs and lush equatorial flora. This idyllic spot will become home to Susurros Del Corazón, an Auberge Resorts Collection. Reintroducing romance to the Punta de Mita peninsula, the property promises to captivate with unscripted luxury, authentic connection, and reverence for nature. The resort will sit on a bluff fringed by tropical jungle that tumbles down to an intimate white sand beach, where warm breezes ruffle hammocks, surfers play on the horizon and perfect sunsets end each extraordinary day. In a nod to the boho-chic culture of under-the-radar beachside towns dotting Mexico’s coastline, the resort’s accommodations will offer indoor-outdoor spaces that bow to the inherent beauty of the land.

24. THE ST REGIS QUIVIRA, LOS CABOS, MEXICO
The St Regis Los Cabos at Quivira will showcase an exclusive 120-room luxury beachfront hotel and 60 residences set within Quivira Los Cabos, a premier residential community with an enviable list of assets, from a glorious of virgin beach on the Sea of Cortes to an internationally-acclaimed Jack Nicklaus Signature course at Quivira Golf Club. The hotel’s guest rooms will feature ocean views and the renowned St Regis Butler Service. 25. CORAZON CABO RESORT & SPA, LOS CABOS, MEXICO
Once a destination for pirates and explorers in search of treasure, the small fishing village of Cabo San Lucas lured traders in need of respite from their sails to its shores. Today, it will become home if Corazón Cabo Resort & Spa, Cabo’s newest luxury resort nestled in the heart of Medano Beach. Corazón Cabo will invite guests to experience exhilarating adventures before returning to the comforts of the resort’s 310 luxury guest rooms and suites. The property will feature two oceanfront infinity pools, a recently elevated and always-buzzing beach club, the city’s highest rooftop bar, Cabo’s only micro-brewery, three all-new concept dining destinations, and access to the best on-water activities in Cabo.

26. HOTEL LA COMPANIA, PANAMA
Three different eras of Panama history will come to life at Hotel La Compañia, where opulent modern design will revitalize a landmark location. Each of our three wings will restores a piece of the old town (Casco Antiguo) to the height of contemporary luxury. Guest will be able to choose from a beautifully curated room in the French Colonial wing, built by Jesuit priests in 1739; the Spanish Colonial wing, dating back to 1688; or the American Beaux-Arts wing, which was once a high-end department store constructed in 1905. The five in-house restaurants will draw on the same historical inspiration, creating the stone Spanish church interior of El Santuario or the old-school wood and brass furnishings of the American Bazaar. The rooftop pool and bar will be the ideal vantage point of a thriving Casco Antiguo neighborhood, where nightlife, upscale dining, and world-renowned archaeological sites live side-by-side.

27. BOTANIKA OSA PENINSULA, COSTA RICA

28. HABITAS SANTA TERESE, COSTA RICA
Santa Teresa, known for its white sand beaches, long-breaking waves and rustic jungle are an idyllic backdrop for travelers seeking adventure and discovery. 29. MET HOTEL LA PAZ, BOLIVIA
This chic boutique hotel will be located in La Paz’s trendy and upscale Calcoto neighborhood, overlooking the Andes Mountains. The property will feature 76 rooms that come in five room types – standard, superior, superior double, deluxe and MET suite. Lined with a curated art collection from Mariano Ugalde, the hotel restaurant and bar will be integrated with the rest of the lobby, and aspire to be an all-day destination where guests and locals can interact. Powered by solar energy, the hotel will also be home to a tranquil urban wellness retreat, where visitors can enjoy an indoor pool, a private massage, and a fully equipped gym.

30. FASANO TRANCOSO, BRAZIL
The Fasano Hotel, one of the most renowned hospitality groups in Brazil, will soon open a resort in Trancoso. Trancoso is one of the most sought after destinations in Brazil, attracting admirers from all corners of the world due to its easy going atmosphere, charm and natural beauty. The complex will include a hotel with 23 residential villas by the sea plus 19 plots for building houses. The architect behind the Hotel and Villas Fasano is Isay Weinfeld, the renowned artist responsible for the iconic Fasano São Paulo and Fasano Punta del Este. As well as all the luxury of the properties, guests and owners will also enjoy the facilities and excellence of one of the best hotels in Brazil. 31. ROSEWOOD SAO PAULO, BRAZIL
Rosewood Sao Paulo will be housed in an impressively renovated building just off the city’s main boulevard Avenida Paulista and will feature 151 guest rooms and 122 residential suites, two restaurants, two swimming pools and a spa centre. Spread over 22 floors, the hotel building was originally built in 1904 and was a maternity hospital located in the center of the Cidade Matarazzo complex, which contains historic buildings in the middle of Sao Paulo. The skyscraper takes the form of a terraced tower clad in a patchwork of bronzed grids, which are inset and pulled out alternatively to form terraced gardens, a scheme which is intended to emulate the surrounding landscape and provide a physical continuation of parkland and trees in the vicinity. The Alila Kothaifaru Maldives hotel is expected to make its debut in early 2022. Prior to Alila’s affiliation with Hyatt, the brand opened Alila Maldives Hadahaa in 2009. Not long after in 2011, Hyatt acquired the management of Alila Hotels and the property was renamed to Park Hyatt Maldives Hadahaa. Later in 2018, Hyatt brought the management company of Alila properties, Two Roads Hospitality under its umbrella. Surrounded by a stunning house reef, Alila Kothaifaru Maldives will offer guests serenity and adventure in Raa Atoll, a scenic 45-minute seaplane journey from Malé. Guests will also be offered to venture on dive excursions to Hanifaru Bay, a UNESCO World Biosphere Reserve during their visit to the island amongst many other soon to be announced leisure activities.
