BEST HOTELS IN PRAGUE

Monday newsletters always feature top 10 travel lists to inspire.

Today (March 25, 2019): Top 10 best luxury hotels in Prague.

The Czech capital is dubbed “the city of the thousand spires” because of its many historical monuments that have been beautifully preserved and date from practically every period in history. Prague’s most famous attraction are the bridges that cross the Vltava River, especially the amazingly elegant Charles Bridge, but the stunningly beautiful Old Town Square and Prague Castle are equally impressive. Add the cobblestone streets and atmospheric alleyways that zigzag through town, and you know that few other cities delight the senses as much as Prague. Here’s my selection of the best hotels in Prague.

There is more information below the slideshow. Do you have a favorite hotel in Prague that didn’t make my list? Leave a comment or take my poll below.

Landmarks such as Old Town Square, Wenceslas Square and Charles Bridge are a 10 minute walk away. Inside, Art Deco interiors create a sophisticated retreat. Leave the ornate facades and busy streets of the old town behind and unwind in the serene atmosphere of contemporary new rooms, inspired by Prague’s history. The hotel’s welcoming team captures the city’s charm and generosity with personal service to create a truly seamless experience. The property’s restaurant Zinc is famed for its modern and innovative European cuisine.

8. BOHO PRAGUE HOTEL

With its minimalist style, BoHo Prague Hotel provides a chic contrast to the ornate grandeur of nearby Old Town. Pairing eye-catching modern design with friendly service and luxury touches, this boutique retreat – member of Small Luxury Hotel of the World – is made for exclusive city breaks. In the lounge and foyer, high ceilings and full-length windows evoke the hotel’s former life as the city newspaper office. By day, enjoy a coffee in the lounge, or indulge in a Swedish, aromatherapy or deep-tissue massage in the spa’s solo treatment room. Then, as evening draws in, savor international cuisine in the restaurant, or a signature cocktail in the stylish bar, before retiring to your generously sized and luxuriously dressed room.

7. HOTEL JOZEF

A modern gem of contemporary cool, the 109-room Hotel Josef in Prague’s old town elegantly blends the 20th-century tradition of Czech design with the rich history of its surroundings. Evoking a stark white modernist utopia, from the spectacular glass and steel spiral staircase to the wall-length windows leading to the Zen-inspired courtyard, Hotel Josef will clear your mind and overwhelm your senses. A mix of efficiency and luxury pervades the rest of the hotel, exemplarily shown in the airy and light breakfast room with its own French bakery. A newly refurbished roof-top gym, along with a sauna and massage room, complete the sophisticated environment of Hotel Josef, which is one of Prague’s most popular hotels.

6. THE GRAND MARK PRAGUE

Nestled in a former baroque palace, The Grand Mark Prague – member of Leading Hotels of the World – creates an aura of luxury, artfully blending classical design with modern art, technology and features throughout. The location is ideal for a city trip as it is within walking distance of all the key attractions in Prague, as well as high-end designer shopping. Guest accommodations evoke the elegance and grandeur of the original castle. Design elements incorporate rich textures, fine furnishings and specially commissioned artwork to enhance the traveler’s comfort and experience. The hotel’s charming courtyard garden and terraces offer the perfect settings for enjoying a memorable meal, or simply relaxing in a hidden enclave in the city center.

5. THE ALCHYMIST GRAND HOTEL & SPA

The Alchymist Grand Hotel & Spa is situated in the picturesque streets of the Lesser Town area, within four former-bourgeoise houses of which the oldest one, “Dum U Jeziska,” has served various purposes and owners during the past five centuries. In 2006, this 5 star boutique hotel was opened in Prague Old Town, utilizing the beautiful baroque style and creating a refined ambience. Reflecting the historical character of the building, the Alchymist Grand Hotel & Spa sensitively incorporates Aquarius restaurant, spoiling its guests with home-made Italian pasta and exquisite wines, and the  luxury-wellness Ecsotica Spa, located in the building‘s ancient cellars offering a perfect hide-away for relaxation.

4. ARIA HOTEL PRAGUE

Inspired by music, Aria Hotel Prague is located just steps from the Charles Bridge and Prague Castle. Composed of 51 luxurious rooms and suites dedicated to a specific style of music or particular artists and composers, at Aria Hotel Prague, no two Luxury Suites are the same! Each floor is dedicated to one music genre: Opera, Classical, Contemporary and Jazz with rooms being named after famous musicians such as Mozart. The hotel’s CODA Restaurant offers exceptional cuisine that ranks among the best in the city. Built in 1720, the hotel’s Vrtba Garden is a magnificent landmark on the UNESCO World Heritage List as one of the most charming and well-preserved palace gardens and the oldest Baroque garden in Prague.

3. AUGUSTINE, A LUXURY COLLECTION HOTEL

Conveniently located in the radiant heart of Prague’s Lesser Town, right below Prague Castle and just steps away from Charles Bridge, this hotel is the quintessence of Prague’s history, character and beauty. As part of Luxury Collection, Augustine defines the destination with its deep history and energy inspired by the13th century Augustine monastery, which is interconnected with the hotel and still active with four monks living there. The property offers 101 individually furnished contemporary rooms and suites in various categories including four exquisite signature suites that will inspire guests and was designed by Olga Polizzi in 2009. Guests can experience local food and beverage in Augustine Restaurant and Terrace, Refectory Bar or tranquil Sundial Garden and Arcades.

2. FOUR SEASONS HOTEL PRAGUE

Set in a premium Old Town location – on the picturesque Vltava River, a stone’s throw away from the Charles Bridge – the Four Seasons Hotel Prague interweaves its renowned service and comfort with Czech cultural traditions and centuries of architecture in this landmark of gracious design. At this luxury hotel, a contemporary main building unites three historical edifices: neoclassical, Renaissance and baroque. The 157 guestrooms, including 19 unique suites, are among the largest in town. Some offer breathtaking views of the Prague Castle and Charles Bridge while others have lovely views of the historical buildings in the neighborhood. Upon arrival, sign up for one of the signature treatments in the luxurious AVA Spa.

1. MANDARIN ORIENTAL PRAGUE

A historic hotel deeply immersed in local tradition, Mandarin Oriental Prague is a carefully restored monastery dating back to the 14th century. Though set in the shadows of Prague Castle and surrounded by charming cobbled streets, the hotel offers a decidedly modern experience. I recommend to choose a Deluxe Terrace room for its private patio overlooking a flower garden or a Deluxe Suite for its vaulted ceilings and antique parquet flooring — each has been lovingly restored to preserve its character. The spa is the only one in the world set in a former chapel; under its glass floor, you can view remnants of an even earlier Gothic church.
