Today: Top 10 best luxury resorts in Mauritius
Located to the east of Madagascar, the idyllic island of Mauritius with its unspoilt beaches and azure waters offers a unique experience of European, African and Asian cultures. It is one of the top four island destinations for a tropical holiday in the warm Indian Ocean (the other three being the Maldives, Zanzibar and the Seychelles). The island is famous for its lush greenery, rich wildlife, warm hospitality, and turquoise lagoons, which caught the attention of many early visitors, including Charles Darwin, Ernest Hemingway and Mark Twain. Just as was the case for many of these visitors, the island continues to captivate travelers today due to its diverse landscape and natural beauty across both land and sea. The island also boasts some of the most luxurious and famous hotels in the world; here’s my selection of the top 10 best resorts in Mauritius.

LUX* Belle Mare is missing 🙂
The best
Mauritius is really a dreamlike place and I think you covered the top resorts onsite. Here is my detailed review of my favorite luxury hotel on this stunning island, which I have just published: Hotel Royal Palm: http://www.swisstraveler.net/2017/03/review-of-royal-palm-beachcomber-luxury.html
Do any of the above hotels have independent local restaurants within walking distance?Whilst we enjoy in-house dining, we also wish to support local and independent businesses and enjoy getting out of the hotel in an evening.
I have stayed at the top 5 on this list. Oberoi & OO St. Geran are the 2 best in Mauritius, debatable which is better even though I prefer Oberoi. Four Seasons, Shangri La and JW are not as good as those 2!
Surprised not to see Lux Grand Baie on this list, that and Saint Geran are absolutely in the top.
Agreed that One n’ Only and Oberoi are clearly the 2 best in Mauritius. While Four Seasons, Shangri La and JW (Former St. Regis) are great, they are not as good as Oberoi and O&O St Geran.
One n Only and Oberoi all the way! The others do not match up to those 2!
Oberoi is my favorite in Mauritius. Its the only “Authentic” hotel of the top 5 named on this list. There is definitely a Mauritian/African vibe when staying at the Oberoi and its truly special. While the other 4 are great properties, they are all modern in design and doesn’t offer anything “Special” that you can’t find anywhere else in the world.
Hello everyone
Last year we have traveled to Mauritius and divided our stay into 3 resorts : oberoi/ four seasons/ O&O
For us the best was four seasons due to the service/ food / silent beach/ and trips to the private beach
Oberoi is second on my list
One & only was the most expensive of them – we had a suite at the corner in front of the beach- my recommendation is to take apartment facing lagoon due to no privacy if you are staying in front of the beach- also service was poor in my opinion- paths were washed and grass was mowed just from the early morning so there was no silent … our butler was the worst one we had in our travel history.
Food was superb
In my opinion due to the price you we don’t get what we were expecting.
Wow, that’s a lovely list of luxury hotels. Four seasons is my favourite. Also I like the way you provided with some tips on a few hotels.
