The following 19 tips\u00a0may help you in the process of finding the cheapest Economy Class ticket to your destination (read\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/turkeyalwan.net\/tips-for-booking-the-cheapest-first-business-class-ticket\/\">here<\/a>\u00a0my tips for finding cheap Business and First Class tickets).<\/p>\n<p>Think I forgot one? Share your own tips in the <strong>comments section<\/strong>, or take my <strong>poll<\/strong> below.<\/p>\n<ul style=\"text-align: left;\">\n<li>Search for the cheapest fare on the <strong>internet<\/strong>, and not through a travel agency as the latter will always need to be paid with a commission.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"text-align: left;\">Use the airfare search engine <a href=\"https:\/\/www.kayak.com\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Kayak<\/a>, my personal favorite. The latter checks the price of your requested flight at tons of sites at once, including <a href=\"http:\/\/www.orbitz.com\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Orbitz<\/a>\u00a0and <a href=\"http:\/\/www.cheaptickets.com\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Cheaptickets<\/a>, and allows flexibility in your travel dates. However, <strong>Kayak<\/strong> does not display all prices, so do not forget to check other online ticket-sellers as well: <a href=\"http:\/\/www.hipmunk.com\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Hipmunk<\/a>, <a href=\"http:\/\/www.momondo.com\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Momondo<\/a>, <a href=\"http:\/\/www.hotwire.com\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Hotwire<\/a>, <a href=\"http:\/\/www.anrdoezrs.net\/links\/7603513\/type\/dlg\/https:\/\/www.skyscanner.net\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Skyscanner<\/a>, <a href=\"http:\/\/www.jdoqocy.com\/click-7603513-11848293-1457656542000\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Expedia<\/a>, and <a href=\"http:\/\/www.travelocity.com\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Travelocity<\/a>.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"text-align: left;\"><a href=\"http:\/\/matrix.itasoftware.com\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Matrix<\/a>\u00a0is the ITA software that powers Kayak, Orbitz, Cheaptickets and lots of airlines and travel agent\u2019s tools. But you can skip all their ads and come-ons and search <strong>Matrix<\/strong> itself for the no-nonsense scoop of flying cheap.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"text-align: left;\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.google.com\/flights\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Google\u00a0Flights<\/a>\u00a0is a new tool that has the potential to help you\u00a0tremendously in finding the cheapest ticket. It\u2019s a very simple tool: you just enter your travel dates and destination (city or country), hit \u2018explore destinations\u2019 and <strong>Google Flights<\/strong> shows you a map where you can travel for the lowest price.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"text-align: left;\">Search for cheap fares on the <strong>airline\u2019s official website<\/strong>. This is an often-overlooked tip, but well worth doing as <a href=\"http:\/\/turkeyalwan.net\/airlines\/\">airlines<\/a>\u00a0can host private sales that are only accessible through their website.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"text-align: left;\">Subscribe to the <strong>newsletters<\/strong> of your preferred airlines, so that you will be informed amongst the first about their promotional offers (with sometimes discounts of 25%).<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<ul style=\"text-align: left;\">\n<li style=\"text-align: justify;\">Travel <strong>outside the school holidays<\/strong>.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<ul style=\"text-align: left;\">\n<li><strong>Fly out early<\/strong>: the first flight of the morning is usually the cheapest.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<ul style=\"text-align: left;\">\n<li style=\"text-align: justify;\"><strong>Including a Saturday night<\/strong> in your trip may substantially lower the price.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<ul style=\"text-align: left;\">\n<li style=\"text-align: justify;\"><strong>Be flexible<\/strong>: adding a couple of days to your trip before or after peak travel days may lower the fare.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<ul style=\"text-align: left;\">\n<li style=\"text-align: justify;\"><strong>Leave on a Tuesday or Wednesday\u00a0<\/strong>as this is often much cheaper than leaving in the weekend.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"text-align: left;\"><strong>Book your ticket on a Tuesday afternoon<\/strong>.\u00a0A study by\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/www.farecompare.com\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Farecompare<\/a>\u00a0found this was the best time to buy airline tickets as airliners most frequently release discounted tickets on Tuesdays.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"text-align: left;\"><strong>Book your ticket in advance<\/strong>, about 6 weeks\u00a0for intracontinental and 3 months for intercontinental travel. You will likely pay a big premium for booking too late (within 14 days of your departure day), or for booking too early (more than 5 months in advance, except when you can make use of promotional offers).<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<ul style=\"text-align: left;\">\n<li><strong>Travel last-minute<\/strong> if you are very flexible in your travel plans.\u00a0Airlines, especially charters, are known to cut prices when they can&#8217;t fill their planes for upcoming flights.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<ul style=\"text-align: left;\">\n<li><strong>Fly different airlines<\/strong>. Most airlines now\u00a0sell one-way flights at reasonable prices, meaning one airline might be cheaper for the outbound flight while the other works better for the return.\u00a0You could even fly to one airport and depart from another.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"text-align: left;\">Consider booking an <strong>indirect flight<\/strong> to your destination. Direct or non-stop flights\u00a0to your destination may be expensive, as some people will pay a premium for the convenience and there is little competition. Transferring is a time-consuming hassle, but it can save you a bundle, as there are many options and airlines are competing to undercut each other.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"text-align: left;\">Check <strong>alternate airports<\/strong>. If there is more than one airport near your origin or destination city, check them all (e.g. San Francisco and Oakland; Miami and Fort Lauderdale; New York and Newark; Washington DC and Baltimore).\u00a0 Sometimes, alternate airports can be located a bit further away from your destination, but still be well-connected by public transport (e.g. Brussels versus Amsterdam, D\u00fcsseldorf, Frankfurt and Paris).<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<ul style=\"text-align: left;\">\n<li style=\"text-align: justify;\">Flying <strong>low-cost carriers<\/strong> can save lots of money but be very careful, as they may charge lots of hidden extras (making them not so low-cost after all), and they often fly to alternate, less convenient airports<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"text-align: left;\">Fly for free by joining the <strong>loyalty program<\/strong> of an airline.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><a
