The Intercon has got more going on around it as it is next door to a small mall and has a Trader Vics attached to it, whereas the Crown Plaza is on the top of a cliff on its own so you need a taxi to go anywhere. The CP has much better sundowner views and the terrace/bar is OK, there are no real views from the Intercon. The Intercon is more shabby as it is due for a big change soon, but I like its larger grounds and pool areas, the CP is on a much smaller plot. The gyms are about the same. Both hotels are within walking distance of ‘beaches’. Remember this is Oman, so there is no normal nightlife 😉

Do you know if the Crowne Plaza is better than the Intercontinental? I may switch if so!

Hi Nigel, while I was at the hotel, I was told that initial plans to demolish the hotel and build a new one were abandoned a couple of years ago. Instead, the InterContinental will be refurbished very soon. The W hotel next door will probably be a very nice property (it’s also located closer to the sea). KR

Presumably you are aware that the construction work next door is the new ‘W’ Hotel? Once operational the trusty old Intercon is being demolished to make way for a new one.

Regards

Nigel
