However, the\u00a0varied topography &amp; geography of Oman makes its climate varied too:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>For most of the country, including the<strong> capital Muscat<\/strong>, the summer season is extremely hot, humid and unsuitable for travel. The temperature during this season peaks up to an average of 40\u00b0C (104\u00b0 F). Sometimes the temperature can go as high as 50\u00b0C (122\u00b0F) during the day. Winter is the best time for travel,\u00a0with an average temperature during the day of about 27\u00b0C (80\u00b0F) while the nights are breezy and cooler with temperatures dropping down to an average of 15\u00b0C (60\u00b0C). Winter days are filled with sunshine for most of the time (although recent years have seen an increase in the number of overcast and rainy days).<\/li>\n<li>The temperature in the <strong>mountains<\/strong> is\u00a0around 15\u00b0C (30\u00b0F) degrees cooler than in Muscat year round, making it a great place to escape from the heat of the lower plains in the summer months, or for a refreshing break and perhaps a view of snow-capped peaks under the winter sun.<\/li>\n<li>The Dhofar area in <strong>southern Oman <\/strong>&#8211;<strong>\u00a0<\/strong>where the beach resort of Salalah is located &#8211; sees monsoon rains from June to September. The rain falls under the form \u00a0of a constant drizzle, transforming the landscape into \u00a0a green, lush oasis.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<hr \/>\n<h5 id=\"how\"><strong>HOW TO GET THERE<\/strong><\/h5>\n<p>Most visitors arrive into Oman via Muscat International Airport, although an increasing number of visitors fly in via Salalah International Airport.<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><strong>Muscat International Airport<\/strong> (MCT) is the country&#8217;s largest airport and the main entry to Oman. It is situated close to the capital\u00a0Muscat\u00a0and\u00a0features flights to several regional destinations as well as some intercontinental services to Asia, Africa and Europe. Click <a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Muscat_International_Airport\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">here<\/a> for a list of airlines that offer direct flights to Muscat.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Salalah International Airport <\/strong>(SLL) \u00a0is the\u00a0Sultanate\u00a0of\u00a0Oman&#8217;s secondary\u00a0international airport, and is the main gateway to southern\u00a0Oman and the beach resort town of Salalah. Click <a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Salalah_International_Airport\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">here<\/a> for a list of airlines that offer direct flights to Salalah.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Before you buy a plane ticket, consider reading my\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/turkeyalwan.net\/how-to-book-a-flight\/\">tips &amp; tricks for buying the cheapest plane ticket<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>It&#8217;s also possible to enter Oman over road from the United Arab Emirates. The\u00a0Musandam Governorate &#8211; where the <a href=\"https:\/\/turkeyalwan.net\/2015\/12\/09\/review-six-senses-zighy-bay-oman\/\">Six Senses Zighy Bay<\/a>\u00a0resort is located &#8211;\u00a0is an\u00a0exclave, separated from the rest of Oman by the\u00a0United Arab Emirates, and is\u00a0best accessed by land from the\u00a0United Arab Emirates (2 hour drive from Dubai).<\/p>\n<hr \/>\n<h5 id=\"requirements\"><strong>TRAVEL REQUIREMENTS<\/strong><\/h5>\n<p>Requirements\u00a0for\u00a0entry\u00a0into Oman differ from country to country, and are subject to change. Prior to departure, always check with your government and your nearest Omani embassy or consulate what documents you need for travel to Oman.<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>You need a <strong>passport<\/strong> with at least six months validity to enter Oman.<\/li>\n<li>You must obtain a\u00a0<strong>visa<\/strong>\u00a0prior to travel unless you come from one of the visa exempt countries (which are part of the Gulf Cooperation Council) or one of the countries whose citizens are eligible for a one-month travel visa that can be purchased on arrival at any land, sea or air entry port in the country.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Make sure you read my <a href=\"https:\/\/turkeyalwan.net\/2014\/02\/28\/10-tips-to-start-preparing-your-trip\/\">10 tips to plan a worry-free trip<\/a>.<\/p>\n<hr \/>\n<h5 id=\"getting\"><strong>GETTING AROUND<\/strong><\/h5>\n<p>There\u2019s very little public transport in Oman. You can get to the main towns and cities by public coaches, but to really see anything of the country you\u2019ll need your own transport:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Most travelers will <strong>rent a car<\/strong>. This indeed\u00a0the easiest way of getting around the country. Car rental companies are present at major airports and central city locations. Although the road infrastructure is excellent, the driving conditions can be dangerous because of the undisciplined driver habits of the locals.<\/li>\n<li>One of the best ways to travel worry-free around Oman is by signing up for a tour or <strong>hiring your own guide-driver<\/strong> (which can be arranged via most hotels at an affordable cost).<\/li>\n<li><strong>Domestic flights<\/strong>\u00a0might be an option if you don&#8217;t have a lot of time and want to travel in a fast way from Muscat to Salalah (90 minute flight instead of a 9 hour drive). This is a great itinerary if you want to see country in a time frame of one week (although two weeks are recommended if you have more time and want to see all of the country)<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><strong>Days 1-4<\/strong>: Muscat &amp; beach (recommended hotel: <a href=\"https:\/\/turkeyalwan.net\/2016\/06\/15\/review-the-chedi-muscat-oman\/\">The Chedi Muscat<\/a>, <a href=\"https:\/\/turkeyalwan.net\/2016\/06\/08\/review-al-bustan-palace\/\">Al Bustan Palace<\/a>, or <a href=\"https:\/\/turkeyalwan.net\/2016\/05\/11\/review-shangri-la-al-husn\/\">Shangri-La Al Husn<\/a>).<\/li>\n<li><strong>Days 5-7<\/strong>: Hajar Mountains (recommended hotel: <a href=\"https:\/\/turkeyalwan.net\/2016\/05\/18\/review-alila-jabal-akhdar-oman\/\">Alila Jabal Akhdar<\/a> or <a href=\"http:\/\/jabal-akhdar.anantara.com\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Anantara al Jabal Al Akhdar<\/a>).<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>If you have more time, you can also extend your vacation with a couple of days at the Musandam Peninsula, which is best accessed via road (via the UAE) and which harbors stunning fjords in addition to Oman&#8217;s most fabulous hotel (<a href=\"https:\/\/turkeyalwan.net\/2015\/12\/09\/review-six-senses-zighy-bay-oman\/\">Six Senses Zighy Bay<\/a>). If you have two weeks time, you could also visit Oman&#8217;s Dhofar region in the south, around the beach resort town of Salalah (recommended hotel: <a href=\"http:\/\/salalah.anantara.com\/\"
