Yeah I’m not as over the moon about Soneva Kiri. The place has an old feel, and the rooms will be that way for a long time. The price point is very high (treetop dining for a quick afternoon tea costs like $300!). The food is good but not great. And there’s very little in the way of cultural interest on Koh Kood, basically nothing to see outside the resort.

And as the review mentions, there’s NO beach on the property. It is a decent boat ride away (15 minutes? My son got seasick on the boat) and they don’t take you if there’s too much wind, and you’re stuck without a beach.

The service is absolutely sensational, and second basically to none.

I just think that people who go with the intention of seeing the best hotel in the world will be disappointed.

We tend to agree to almost all of the points made, definitely an outstanding experience. Especially the extraordinary friendliness of all (!) of staff is marvelous. However, the property is around 20 years old and we were quite disappointed to see that. Given the price you pay we have seen better places and if nothing is invested it might become a bigger challenge. Frankly, we would think about going back.
