Today: Top 10 best luxury resorts & hotels in French Polynesia
The unspoiled coral reefs, islands and lagoons that make up French Polynesia are a mythical destination, having remained virtually unchanged since 18th-century sailors first reported sightings of these stunning islets. Located in the Pacific Ocean, the archipelago’s iconic islands of Tahiti, Moorea and Bora Bora are spectacularly beautiful. Thick with coconut forests and colorful villages, these island feature jagged green peaks that cascade down to miles of fine, white sandy beaches and crystal clear, turquoise water as far as the eye can see. No wonder that discerning travelers are flocking to these islands and that some of the most stunning hotels in the world are located here. Here’s my selection of the 10 best luxury hotels & resorts in French Polynesia, all but three of them located in Bora Bora.

Just completed a 17 day, four island trip to Polynesia and stayed at five different hotels, four of which are on this list. Le Taha’a Resort is hands down the best, with a genuine Tahitian welcoming attitude, outstanding room choices (we stayed in the premium beachfront: Stunning!), the best food in Polynesia and plenty to do (the coral gardens are not to be missed). The Conrad and the Sofitel Moorea are a tie for second. The Conrad has the best overwater bungalow, but little else. The Sofitel is aging, but has the best hotel beach in Polynesia. The Intercontinental Tahiti is essentially a “transit hotel”, and beats out the Hilton Tahiti in this regard due to it’s beach access and food choices. With a multi Island airline pass, it’s strongly recommended that visitors take advantage of as many islands as possible, as they all have their own individual feel and offerings. That said, we are returning next year and spending the majority of our time on Taha’a.
